Turnips
Did you know cooked vegetables are considered the main dish in most Indian diet? When I asked my mom what she’s making for dinner, it would always be simply spiced and cooked vegetable called bhaji. We had okra, mustard greens, green beans, white radish, spinach, cabbage, and much more.
I saw these beautiful purple turnips at Mom’s Organic Market, and cooked them into a delicious bhaji. Turnips are root vegetables. They hold qualities of the earth and water which are both grounding, nourishing, and moistening. They are also pungent, astringent, and bitter which makes them a uniquely cleansing root vegetable.
It is very important to eat foods which are not just for building protein, but also ones which clear and reduce the buildup of waste. Most physical and frankly mental health problems today are due to the imbalance of consuming too much heavy rich food. They clog up the channels in the body and mind to feel dense, tense, unclear, and agitated. It’s very difficult to have clear and steady health without cleansing foods.
Turnips can really help!
